Andre van Deventer is the National Director of Deafblind South Africa
Deafblind South Africa was established on 20 June 1996 in Cape Town by
a group of deafblind people who decided that it was now the time to start
an organisation of deafblind people to be the mouthpiece of the deafblind
community in South Africa. On 8 August 1998 the first ever conference of
deafblind people was held in Worcester, about 70 kilometres from Cape Town,
where the first constitution for Deafblind South Africa was excepted by
a majority vote.
Deafblind South Africa at present has 2 branches in South Africa. According
to Andre van Deventer, The Chairman of Deafblind South Africa they are
the only functioning organisation of deafblind people in Sub-Saharan Africa.
