It will be inconceivable that I will be able to manage to have listed all the different conferences and courses throughout the world about deafblindness, That would be impossible for me to do, because these are changing constantly with new (times, venue,and etc) after they are first announced. Remember this is just a little private web site which I have made without the help of any sighted hearing person.

I will do my very best to list all the conferences, courses, events, seminars, and workshops that I can find the information for on the Net, but please, if you know of any conferences or courses that I have missed, or your organisation that you are part of have one coming up, would you please let me know andIi will be very pleased to put the conference, course, event, seminar or workshop information on the A-Z to Deafblindness site.  Similarly, if you have just found out about a conference or course, would You please let me know.

Fifth DBI European Conference on Deafblindness.

Theme: "Self determination a life long process"
Date: 24 - 29  July 2001
Venue: Leeuwenhorst Congress center, Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands.

Prior to the conference, the organising committee gives the opportunity to organise several "piggy back" activities between 21 - 23 July 2001. European departments serving deafblind people and deafblind networks are invited to conduct such activities such as a networkday, workshop, (training)course. If you are interested to conduct an activity, please contact us.

In the neighbourhood of the European DbI conference, meetings for deafblind people and their relatives will be organised. Participants in this events can  participate in parts of the conference.

Bristol Dual Sensory Loss Service.

We offer CACDP accredited training in Deafblind Awareness and Guiding & Communicating Skills in partnership with City of Bath College and the University of Bristol. There will be Deafblind Awareness courses in Bath on August 21st/22nd 2000 and Bristol on September 7/8th 2000 and a Guiding and Communicating course in Bristol during the first week of December 2000.

CACDP refers to The Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People who are the assessing body for Deafblind Awareness, Communication and Guiding Skills and Interpreting Skills.  Written assessments are scheduled for the afternoon of the last teaching day of each course.

In order to book the CACDP assessments for the Communication and Guiding Skills course, participants must confirm their attendance by the following closing dates: Course 1 - May 21st to 25th - Closing date Monday 9th April.
Course 2 - October 22nd to 26th - Closing date Monday 10th September.

Entry for the CACDP assessment is a requirement of this course.  Both the course and resulting qualification are aimed to be vocational i.e. aimed at those who will be working as Communicator-Guides with deafblind people, or using similar skills in their work.  This means, therefore, that CACDP have entry criteria for the practical assessments which are also used as entry criteria for the course itself.  If you have any concerns over your suitability for the course or assessment, please contact the training department.

Please note that all course dates are subject to change.  Deafblind UK will endeavour to give as much advance warning as possible to participants booked onto courses and will also seek to offer alternative dates whenever possible.

Conference and Workshop on Assistive Technologies for Vision and Hearing Impairment.

Support Technologies for Independent Living and Work 28th -31st August, 2001 at Castelvecchio Pascoli, Italy

This first event in a new international conference series on Assistive Technologies and Rehabilitation Engineering supported by the European Commission will be held at the International Conference Centre at the Hotel Il Ciocco, Castelvecchio Pascoli (Lucca), Italy.  The conference event will take place 29th-31st, August 2001 with Tutorial Workshops being held on
Tuesday 28th August 2001 at the Conference Centre.  This First Call for Papers seeks regular conference papers (six A4 pages) on the following themes, as well as others relevant to the application of assistive technology to support independent living and working:

Abstract Layout
Abstract should be two A4 pages in length, one column, single line spacing and in Times New Roman font. The Author for Correspondence should be clearly identified at the top of the Abstract, and full postal, fax and email contact details given.  The contributions of the paper should be clearly stated in the Abstract, and a set of headings giving the outline contents of the paper given along with a short list of the literature cited in the paper. Papers will only be accepted if at least one author will
attend the Conference to present the work.

Abstracts should be sent to the Conference Secretariat to arrive by 1st February, 2001. They can either be emailed as a WORD document file to: v.romanes@elec.gla.ac.uk OR, three paper copies should be sent by post to:  Ms. Vi. Conference Registration Fees and Accommodation Information This conference will be held at the International Conference Centre of the four-star hotel location Il Ciocco at Castelvecchio Pascoli (Lucca), Italy.

European Commission Support and Young Researcher Bursaries This series of EURO-ASSIST-VHI Conferences is supported by the European Commission under its Research Directorates Human Potential Programme: High Level Scientific Conference. The support was awarded to Dr. Marion Hersh (University of Glasgow, Scotland) and Professor Michael Johnson (University of Strathclyde, Scotland) who are key organisers of the Conference series.

Two conferences are currently planned; the first is this one in Italy in 2001 having as its theme Support Technologies for Independent Living and Work. A second one is planned for 2002 in Grenada, Spain with the theme, Accessibility, Mobility and Societal Integration. The European Commission support includes 20 bursaries for Young European Researchers for each
